“Mom”

Abstract painting with scribbled text and colorful brushstrokes on canvas, mounted on a white wall.
Cozy dining nook with a pink cushioned bench, decorative pillows, a wooden table with a bowl of apples, a vase of white and purple flowers, and framed artwork on the wall near a window with blue curtains.

This painting is made entirely from marks of the word "mom". I, like many other moms, hear “mom” dozens (hundreds?) of times a day. Called from the other room for help with homework or a broken toy, sleepily for a snuggle before bed, scared in the night, or excited in the morning. Annoyed, mad, sad, loving. As moms we hear it all and in every season and emotional range. To be honest, all the “mom”ing can feel overstimulating at times, especially when used seven times in a row to get our attention mid cooking dinner, but all those “mom”s together, make one beautiful garden that shows the richness of motherhood. The growth of every seed planted in bedtime kisses and words of encouragement and gentle correction. The bounty of love and extravagance that it means to be a mother. This painting is an homage to beautiful life that is motherhood.
