Bio
Kendra Sanchez (b. 1992) is an Arizona-based artist creating paintings that move between abstraction and realism. Her work brings together expressive color, loose marks, and recognizable forms to explore the landscapes and natural details of everyday life.
Her practice is informed by her experience of motherhood, a close attention to the natural world, and more than a decade of work in design and creative direction. That background shapes her approach to color and composition, while painting offers space for a more intuitive, personal exploration.
Sanchez’s work is held in private collections across the United States, and she has exhibited in Utah, Ohio, and Arizona. She lives and works in Glendale, Arizona.
Artist Statement
My paintings grow out of the way I experience the natural world. I’m drawn to the way light changes a landscape and the unexpected colors I find when I look closely or step back to observe the scene as a whole. I aim to capture how it truly feels to exist in a particular moment, more so than the literal representation of my surroundings.
I’m especially interested in the ways strength and gentleness coexist in nature. I see that balance reflected in femininity and in my experience of motherhood, where being tender can require its own kind of strength. These parts of my life shape what I notice and what finds its way into my paintings.
My work moves between abstraction and realism, combining recognizable forms with a loose, hand-drawn quality. As I paint, I let the colors and shapes follow the feeling of the scene. Painting gives me time to reflect and stay with an impression a little longer. I hope my work offers a similar space for others to pause and find something of their own experience within it.
